Ok, I am actually writing this in July. But I decided it'd be fun to look back someday and read this.

My landlord decided to raise my rent. I claim descrimination! Only kidding. They raised it by $430. Now, this house is probably worth the new rate. If I were looking, I'd probably be excited to rent it for the new amount. The problem is, I currently am paying way less for the same house. What a ripoff!

So here's where I get lucky. I am spoiled. I live blocks from the kids schools and will not move farther away. I have paultry budget by Boulder comparisons. I need 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. It basically leaves me with one set of condo's to choose from. I get an email each time a home which fits my criteria comes on the market. Nothing has hit my inbox for weeks. But the night my rent gets raised, I look through the past emails and find 1509 Bradley. I didn't pay much attention to that email earlier because I really didn't want to spend that much money. But now, the timing is right! Do I want to pay the new rent, move to another rental where the same thing might happen, or buy something? I meet my realtor the next day to take a look at 1509. Ok! Good enough. I'll take it. Bam. Just like that, I start the process of buying.

The place is nice. 1800 sq. ft. with a carport, 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, hardwoods, a deck, steps from a fantastic pool and clubhouse and backs to a park.

Seriously. And why in the WORLD would I think it would be cool to ride my bike up the thing? I am talking about Super James. It's a part paved and part dirt road that connects Jamestown to the Peak to Peak highway. I am riding with 2 guys who call themselves my friends. They must be, since they had to wait for my sorry ass several times.

We are only a few short yards out of Jamestown where most sane people turn around and call an end to their day of climbing. I am watching my friends get smaller as they distance themselves. I'm dropped. Like a bag of sand. I'm left alone to ponder and work through my personal issues and only a few thoughts are in my mind as I suffer. Don't stop. Don't zigzag across the road to ease the pain. Don't shred what's left of my left knee. Don't stop. I sorta laugh as I think I am nearing the top of road and the car that just passed me goes out of sight for a moment and I hear the transmission kick down to first gear and the Toyota engine roars loudly. I am in for some serious pain.

I swear, two miles outside of Jamestown my left quad pops off. At mile marker 6 my left butt cheek detaches and falls to the ground. A mile later my left lung slides down and drops through the hole and onto the pavement. Near the top I think I am crying. I can't really tell since I am sweating so badly. But I make it, the first real climbing this year and it's mid June!!!!

Most winters I spend the cold nights in the gym lifting weights wondering if it helps my riding at all. Since my knee operation kept me from basically walking much of the winter, I now know the answer. It does. But I don't stop or zig or zag and I don't shred my knee. I take great pleasuring in knowing that I can do this climb in the shape I am in. As I rebuild the muscle lost and finally get to pedal with two strong legs, I know I will get faster and stronger. I smile when I get back to the car because this is SO cool!

I love riding my bike.

Sure, there are worse things to be addicted to.  I tell myself it's for my health.  My addiction used to be buying cars (though my friends inform me that that is still an issue) and now it is bikes, which is a much cheaper addiction.

This is my new 08 Paragon 29er. It will be replacing my WCB (WorldsCoolest Bike) since that bike is just too big. This bike weighs in around 24 lbs and will do just as well as my cross bike (hopefully) as it will be faster on dirt but perhaps a little slower on road. So, that technically leaves me with 4 bikes still. However, I don't REALLY count my commuter bike since that was paid for in 1991. So really, it's 3 bikes. But they are all GOOD bikes.

Shopping for a Mazda at Mercedes was an experience. I sat next to a $513,000 McClaren SLK while inking this deal.
